Which EPL Also-ran Can Win the CL?

English football is back to its glory days with 5 teams competing in the Champions League this year and with all of them progressing to the knockout rounds it is obvious that this years Champions League winner will likely be from the English Premier League. Bookmakers such as NetBet are offering enticing odds for an English team to win the Champions League and if you go by the odds they are offering it is clear that the bookies favourite for this years Champions League is Pep Guardiolas Manchester City. The Citizens, together with Barcelona and Real Madrid have the lowest odds for a Champions League triumph, and it is a well known fact that bookies rarely make mistakes in pricing teams.

In this article we will assess the chances of the other 4 English participants in this years edition of the Champions League and try to figure out if these 4 teams has got what it takes to challenge City and the two Spanish giants to the Champions League title.

Chelsea

Chelsea got the worst draw of the 5 English participants and are highly unlikely to progress further than the best 16 teams this year. Barcelona will more than likely eliminate Antonio Contes side based on current form and no one in the football world will be surprised.

Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino has got one of the most talented football teams on his hands and it seems very likely that if he manages to keep his key players, this Tottenham team will compete for honors sooner rather than later. This year however, we feel that it is still too early for them as they are still overly too reliant on Harry Kane.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has created a Liverpool side which is completely up to his liking. They play a high tempo pressing game which is perfect for the football purists. Players such as Salah, Firmino, Sane and Oxlade Chamberlaine can run at opponents for 90 minutes without breaking a sweat and often terrorize opposing defences mercilessly.

However, one thing which Klopp hasnt instilled still in his team is consistency. This Liverpool team can defeat anyone on their day, but it is very difficult to predict before a match, whether it will be their day

or not. For this reason, we are doubtful that Liverpool could challenge for the Champions League trophy this year.

Manchester United

The last entry on this list is the team which we feel is the likeliest to win the trophy if City, Barcelona and Real Madrid fail to do so. Jose Mourinhos side is not impressing in the English Premier League this season, but has still managed to put a top 4 finish beyond any doubt.

Another thing which goes in their favour is the fact that they have a squad which is full of proven winners and of players which are slowly reaching the zenith of their playing careers.

Finally, in Jose Mourinho, they have a manager who has already won the Champions League and who knows how to win big matches.
